Downloading and printing files
This web site has a number of files other than standard HTML web pages.
These include Adobe Acrobat files (.pdf), Text files (.txt), WinZip/PKZip
files (.zip) and comma-delimited files (.csv). The instructions on this page
should help with any problems you may have with these files.
Adobe Acrobat Reader
The Acrobat files on this site require Adobe Acrobat Reader version
5.0 or
later. Download the Acrobat reader from the Adobe site.
To download Adobe Acrobat files to your hard disk
instead of viewing them in the browser:
Windows
Use the right mouse button to click on the link (PDF icon or underlined text).
A menu will appear. Choose the item "Save target as..." or
"Save link as..." This will give you a dialog box that allows you to
save the file to an appropriate location on your hard disk.
Macintosh
Click and hold on the link (PDF icon or underlined text). After a short pause,
a menu will appear. Choose the item "Save this link as..." or
"Download link to disk". This will give you a dialog box that allows
you to save the file to an appropriate location on your hard disk. If you
wish, you can change the behaviour for PDF files permanently. Look for PDF
under Applications or File helpers in the Preferences dialog of your browser.
Printing Adobe Acrobat files
If Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) files do not print correctly, there are a couple of
things to try:
- Download the complete file as described above rather than trying to
print from within the browser.
- People using MS Windows may need to change the settings on the printer
driver.
Choose 'Properties' or 'Options' in the print dialog. Look for options
that allow you to set fonts to download as bitmap fonts and use raster
graphics rather than vector graphics.
Adobe Acrobat and Internet Explorer 4 for Windows
If you experience problems viewing Acrobat files or using embedded links
within Acrobat documents and you are using Internet Explorer 4 for Windows,
you may need to install the
Adobe
Acrobat control for Active X.
Zip files
Some files are compressed using the ZIP format to reduce download times.
Download one of these products to unzip these files:
Windows
Aladdin Expander
(free)
Winzip (US$29.00 shareware)
Macintosh
Aladdin Stuffit
Expander (Free)
Data files (.txt and .csv)
To avoid text files displaying in the browser window, use the instructions
described above under Acrobat files to download the files to your hard disk.
Both .txt and .csv files can be opened by any spreadsheet or database
program. If necessary check the manual or on-screen help files that came with
your program.
