Rebecca Levingston visit
What a special visit! Rebecca told us about her career and gave us an insight into her future as a Producer.
Guest Speaker - Rebecca
Levingstone from 612ABC Brisbane.
Topic: What is a producer?
Rebecca was Traffic Reporter for the ABC and is now producer for Richard Fidler. Digital world content makes a programme rather than producers. Rebecca was appointed as Richard Fidler’s producer for one year. The cancer cluster based move from Toowong meant an extension of her contract and she is still there. A producer’s role is to do as much as he/she can with a
myriad of ideas for the presenter. i.e. to map out a rough show. The producer must find interviewees who are articulate, knowledgeable and available, arrange loo breaks etc.
They must arrange promo lists - i.e. music to play in interludes plus ‘ads’. The work is loads of fun and producers are successful if the presenter is having fun.
Rebecca has had varied assignments for the ABC including - rowing on the river, on the beach and on the Gateway Bridge. Her job includes telling MPs to be succinct.
Her involvement in “Dry July” in 2010 raised $50,000 in Brisbane alone - $200,000 was raised statewide.
Her greatest risk (or greatest reward) was filling in for Spencer Howson. Each day a different guest. The presentation finished with Radio Cuts featuring
Rebecca - she likes to make radio sound natural, informative and entertaining.
