President’s Message for February 2018 Bulletin

Welcome to the February edition of our Bulletin.

After quite a busy January, we have settled back into the Rotary routine in February, with us returning to our regular meetings at Royal Queensland. Meetings have been filled with not only good food and conversation but some top notch guest speakers too.

First up was District Governor-Elect, Wendy Protheroe, who will be taking over the reigns as DG at the end of June. She gave a presentation on her life story, in particular her working life and how it all led to her joining Rotary and now to being the next District Governor.

Historian, Dr Susan Kellett was another great guest speaker who spoke about one of her passions, the Australian War Memorial and the in particular, the history of its stained glass windows. It really is a fascinating piece of history, and something I’m sure members will remember to take note of next time they are in Canberra. Our third guest speaker in February was Jasmine Mi, who recently returned home from a one year Rotary Youth Exchange in Norway. It was very clear that she gained so much confidence and life experience from her exchange, and the Club was honoured to have sponsored her.

March will see a continuation of solid guest speakers, which I think members feel is important to the success of participation in the Club. A big thanks must go from me to Club Services Director Norm Wilson, as well as those members who, through their own networks, bring us in the great speakers we have.

Preparations are also continuing with our community projects and fundraisers, and I look forward to reporting on these in the four months I have left as your president.

Finally, on a personal note, Chanya and I wish to thank all members who have sent their wishes regarding the recent birth of our first child, Arthur. It was been quite touching and is a reminder of the great friends we have in Rotary. Hopefully, after having a couple of weeks off, I will be back on deck with the Club very soon!
Until next month, yours in Rotary Service.

Yours in Rotary Service
Travis Pullen
